OK...so a lot of time has lapsed between efforts on this project...
Anyway, I saw this great article called "Library PR 2.0" all about how libraries should be using Web 2.0 for marketing. I recognize that this does limit the amount of control an organization has over its PR. However, in a time where we need to go where our patrons are and really put ourselves out there, perhaps it is worth it. Many patrons, and particularly our younger ones, are not getting our message by more traditional means. This is a great opportunity for libraries. Will we take advantage?

Yes, and I like this graph...
It's nice to think that you can control the outflow of information and discussion, but the truth is, you can't. Those days are gone. Staffers talk to customers, and customers talk to customers. It's no longer possible to control a solitary message from one central location.
Thanks for sharing that article. It's clear that traditional methods are becoming more and more outdated by the minute. Staff need to be given the freedom to advocate using Web 2.0 tools--if we don't our patrons will for us! Better that we get out there and provide accurate information. Now, how to ensure that we are all spreading accurate information? That is the challenge for organization leaders.
